A Birthday Lunch

Some friends of mine got together on Friday for the loveliest little lunch at Paloma’s house.  It was a celebration of Alice’s ##st birthday!   We had planned to go to Islands on the West End, but a scheduling conflict with the nanny resulted in a ladies lunch in, instead of out.

IMG_2059Because of napping toddlers, Paloma set up the table in the courtyard, so we wouldn’t wake them.  The back breeze kept us cool, on what otherwise would have been a hot day.   The champagne didn’t hurt either…

IMG_2063Thanks Sarah-Jane for the Moet!  Doesn’t it look refreshing?

IMG_2066And just beyond the champagne flute, those are birds of paradise flowers snipped from Paloma’s garden.  She always sets such a pretty table.  Each of us brought a salad to share…Greek, Nicoise, Potato and a Broccoli Salad with Tahini dressing.  It was a beautiful spread and one I might just have to replicate for a future luncheon.  And the bread…

IMG_2057Oh my, the bread.  While everything else was homemade, the focaccia was purchased from the (relatively new) Family Bakery in town.  If you are visiting Tortola, you have to include a stop at the Family Bakery when provisioning, especially if you’re chartering a yacht from the Moorings, Sunsail or Footloose.  This bakery is incredibly convenient to the docks.  Grab a few loaves before heading out.  You will thank me!!!  The bread is just that good.

Here’s the birthday girl!

IMG_2060 It was a such and enjoyable afternoon, topped off with a delicious chocolate Guinness cake with the best not-too-sweet icing on top!  Thanks again, SJ!

In the end, we much preferred our fun lunch at Paloma’s, as we chatted away until nearly four o’clock!  Happy Birthday, Alice!
