Just around the corner from our new apartment is the Meatpacking District, home to hip restaurants, chic shops, and sexy boutique hotels, including the Gansevoort of Kardashian fame. On this particular day, we stumbled into the Standard Hotel where the hotel vertically straddles the High Line, an elevated green space that stretches more than 35 blocks up Manhattan’s west side.
While there’s an indoor grill-type restaurant, we opted for the outdoor patio’s “pop-up restaurant.” The restaurant’s menu featured approximately 25 plates to share created by Chef Seamus Mullen. With the help of the waitress, we selected three; and she added a fourth.
Our favorite was the shrimp gambas, pictured above. I loved the cold crab and artichoke salad, while Michael devoured the skirt steak sandwich. We shared the potatoes and left little on the plate. Ten days into our Manhattan adventure – this was the best meal yet. Anna Drake slept through most of the meal, but emerged at the end to make friends with people sitting around us…
Since this is a pop-up restaurant, it will go away and be replaced by something else once the seasons change. I guess that means, once it changes over to the next concept, we can go back and not break our “nowhere twice” rule.
